(Toronto, ON, March 22, 2016) – The finale of BBC Earth’s landmark series, Planet Earth II, featuring raccoons filmed in Toronto, will air on Saturday, March 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Anticipation for the raccoons footage began with buzz on social media across Canada when the premiere of Planet Earth II was announced late last year. Entitled, Cities, the sixth and final episode focuses on the remarkable ways in which wildlife has learned to thrive in urban environments. Now, BBC Earth viewers will have the chance to watch the episode in full and see the raccoons segment, along with the other fascinating animals featured in the Cities episode.

Filmed in Toronto, the segment features a mother raccoon’s struggle to usher her litter throughout the urban landscape, in particular from their nest at the top of a building down to an area they can search for food. As her playful babies explore their environment, one gets trapped and is rescued by the mother raccoon who painstakingly shows it how to climb over a fence.

The Cities episode takes a look at Earth’s ever-increasing urban environments as the greatest change affecting wildlife, and explores the idea of building cities that can be homes for both humans and animals. Other animal stories featured in the episode include leopards that prowl the streets of Mumbai, peregrine falcons that hunt amongst New York’s skyscrapers and a million starlings that perform spectacular aerial dances over Rome. Additionally, in Jodhpur, langurs are revered as religious deities and in Harar, locals live in harmony with wild hyenas.

The Planet Earth II finale will premiere during BBC Earth’s nationwide free preview event. Find additional information about programming and scheduling at BBCEarth.ca.
